Evaluation and tasting

Sometimes referred to as the drink of the gods, we can only acknowledge that ourselves as well. Three basic senses are applied when evaluating a certain wine: sight, smell and taste.

When tasting the wine, describe, remember and feel it, be able to present it to others, find its faults. Do not pay too much attention to the year or sort, remember its origin instead.

Subjective to some extent, tasting is the basic evaluation of the wine, absorbing its characteristics.

Tasting:
  • hold the glass at the stem
  • carefully observe the wine in the glass, researching its colours and reflections
  • bring the glass to the nose, smell and remember the fragrance
  • turn the wine in the glass, smell it again, follow its floret
  • take a sip, hold it in your mouth for a moment to feel the taste and aroma
  • spit the wine in the spittoon and absorb the aftertaste
